FREE ~ Cluttered V Crochet Granny Square Pattern

The Cluttered V Granny Square is a beginner friendly crochet pattern which features alternate rows of V-Stitch and Granny Square Clusters. The alternating rows give the square a wonderful and interesting texture. Quick and easy to make, the only stitches are Double Crochet, Slip Stitches and Chain Stitches. Each round goes very quickly and you won't need the pattern in front of you to make.

The Cluttered V Granny Square is very versatile and can be used in place of any granny square in any pattern. Extra rows can be added easily to make it fit your project. Make it one color or mix up the colors to make the square pop!!

Supplies:
H/5mm Crochet hook
4 weight Yarn - acrylic or cotton
Scissors
Tapestry Needle – Weaving in ends
Tape Measure

Size: 5 inch square (approx)

This pattern is written using American standard crochet terminology.

Stitches Used Abbreviations:

CH - Chain

DC - Double Crochet

SL ST - Slip Stitch

V-STITCH – V-Stitch (dc, ch 1, dc)

PATTERN

Make Magic Ring or ch 4 and join with a sl st to beginning ch to form a ring

Round 1 (Granny Round): Chain 3 (counts as 1st dc). In the loop work 2dc, ch-2, 3dc, ch-2, 3dc, ch-2, 3dc, ch-2, sl st to top of starting ch 3., fasten off (12 DC - 8 CH)

Round 2 (V- Stitch Round): Ch 4, dc, ch-2, dc ch-1 dc (1st corner made), *ch-1, [1dc, ch-1, 1dc, ch-2, 1dc, ch-1, 1dc,] in next corner*, repeat * to * 2 more times. Ch 1. Join with a sl st to the top of the 1st ch (8 V-Stitch - 4-ch 2)

Round 3 (Granny Round): Repeat Round 1 doing 3 dc clusters in each space, 3 dc ch-2 3 dc in each corner

Round 4 (V-Stitch Round): Repeat Round 2 doing 1 V-Stitch in each space, V-stitch ch-1 V-stitch in corner

Round 5 (Granny Round): Repeat Round 1 doing 3 dc clusters in each space, 3 dc ch-2 3 dc in each corner

Weave in all the ends. More rounds can be easily be added alternating granny rounds and V-Stitch rounds

NOTE: When joining a new color, sl st in a different chain space than the finishing stitch of the round below. This will keep your square from slanting.

NOTE: If changing colors, weaving in the end at the each row helps maintain the crispness and cleanliness of the square.

BLOCKING: Soak the finished square for about 10 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently, do not twist. Lay damp square on a blocking board and stretch to 5 inch width x 5 inch length (or whatever your gauge is). Use blocking pins to hold square in place. Let the square dry completely before removing from board.

I love me a V-stitch! So simple but yet it looks so complicated!! I recently made a blanket for my daughter and I used a variety of granny squares, and this is one of them.
