FREE ~ Double Daisy Crochet Granny Square

The Double Daisy Granny Square is an intermediate crochet pattern which features a variety of stitches to make a pretty and interesting granny square. It may look difficult, but it's not. The stitches used in this pattern are the Magic Ring, Chain Stitch, Half-Double, Single and Double Crochet and Cluster Stitch. Each round goes very quickly and you can easily kick out quite a few quickly.

The Double Daisy Granny Square is very versatile and can be used in place of any granny square in any pattern. Extra rows can be added easily to make it fit your project. Mix up the colors to make the square pop!!

Supplies:
H/5mm Crochet hook
4 weight Yarn - acrylic or cotton
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Tape Measure

Colors Used:
1 – Yellow
2 – White
3 – Purple

Size: 7 inch square (approx)

This pattern is written using American standard crochet terminology.

Stitches Used Abbreviations:
MR – Magic Ring
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch
HDC – Half Double Crochet
SC – Single Crochet
DC - Double Crochet
CL ST- Cluster Stitch (Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook). Pattern specifies how many pull ups there are, 3 or 4.

NOTE: There may be some roll-up on the daisy rounds before the granny rows

PATTERN

Make Magic Ring or ch 4 and join with a sl st to beginning ch to form a ring

Round 1 (Double Stitch Round)
Yarn 1 – ch2 (counts as a stitch) complete 11 more dc, sl st into first chain 2, fasten off (11 dc, 1 ch 2)

Round 2 (3-Cluster Stitch Round)
Yarn 2 – sl st in between any dc, ch 1, Work * Cluster Stitch pulling up 3 times, Ch 1* in between each dc from round 1, join with a slip stitch in top of first cluster stitch, fasten off (12 cluster - 12 ch)

Round 3 (4-Cluster Stitch Round)
Yarn 2 - Sl St into next ch 1 space. ch 1, work * cl st pulling up 4 times, Ch 2,* repeat 11 times, join with a slip stitch in top of first cl st stitch, fasten off (12 cluster - 24 ch)

Round 4 (Chain Stitch Round)
Yarn 2 – sl st into next ch 2 space, ch 3, single stitch into next chain 2* repeat *11 times, join with a slip stitch into first ch 2 space, fasten off (12 ch 3, 12 single st)

Round 5 (Granny Round)
Yarn 3 - Sl St into any ch 3 space, *ch 2 (counts as dc) 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (corner made), 3 hdc in next 2 ch 3 spaces*, repeat * three times. Join with a slip stitch to beg ch, fasten off (4 corners (3 db, ch2, 3 db) - 8x 3 hdc)

Round 6 (Granny Round)
Yarn 3 - ch 2 (counts as dc) 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (corner made), 3 dc in next 2 ch 3 spaces*, repeat * three times. Join with a slip stitch to beg ch, fasten off (4 corners (3 db, ch2, 3 db) - 8x 3 hdc)

Weave in all the ends. More rounds can be easily be added using regular granny clusters

NOTE: When joining a new color, sl st in a different chain space than the finishing stitch of the round below. This will keep your square from slanting.

NOTE: Weaving in the end at the each row helps maintain the crispness and cleanliness of the square.

BLOCKING: Soak the finished square for about 10 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently, do not twist. Lay damp square on a blocking board and stretch to 5 inch width x 5 inch length (or whatever your gauge is). Use blocking pins to hold square in place. Let the square dry completely before removing from board.
