
FREE ~ Floral Puff Granny Square Crochet Pattern

The Floral Puff Granny Square is an intermediate crochet pattern which features a variety of stitches to make a pretty and interesting granny square. It may look difficult, but it's not. The stitches used in this pattern are the Chain Stitch, Half-Double, Double and Treble Crochet, Puff and Cluster Stitches. Each round goes very quickly and you can easily kick out quite a few quickly.
The Floral Puff Granny Square is very versatile and can be used in place of any granny square in any pattern. Extra rows can be added easily to make it fit your project. Mix up the colors to make the square pop!!

Stitches Used Abbreviations:
MR – Magic Ring
CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch
HDC - Long Double Crochet
DC - Double Crochet
TR – Treble (Triple) Stitch
PUFF - Puff Stitch (Yarn over, insert hook into allocated space, draw up a loop, repeat 3 or 4 times, yarn over, pull through all 9 loops on hook)
CL ST- Cluster Stitch (Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook three times, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook)
PATTERN
Make Magic Ring or ch and join with a sl st to beginning ch to form a ring
Round 1 (Double Stitch Round)
Yarn 1 – ch2 (counts as a stitch) complete 11 more dc, sl st into first chain 2, fasten off (11 dc, 1 ch 2)
Round 2 (Puff Stitch Round)
Yarn 2 – sl st in between any dc, ch 1, Work * Puff Stitch pulling up 4 times, Ch 1* in between each dc from round 1, join with a slip stitch in top of first puff stitch, fasten off (12 puff - 12 ch)
Round 3 (Cluster Stitch Round)
Yarn 3 - Sl St into any ch 1 space. ch 1, work * cl st pulling up 4 times, Ch 2,* repeat 11 times, join with a slip stitch in top of first cl st stitch, fasten off (12 cluster - 24 ch)
Round 4 (Double Puff Stitch Round)
Yarn 4 – sl st into any ch 2 space, ch 1, work * Puff Stitch pulling up 3 times twice, ch 1*, repeat *11 times, join with a slip stitch in top of first puff stitch, fasten off (24 puff - 12 ch)
Round 5 (Long Double Round)
Yarn 5 - Sl St into any ch 1 space, ch 2 (counts as hdc), make long dc into top of cluster stitch in row 3, hdc , ch 2, repeat hdc, long dc, hdc, ch 2* 11 times, join with a sl st to beg ch, fasten off (12 hdc long dc hdc clusters, 24 ch), fasten off
Round 6 (Granny Round)
Yarn 6 - Sl St into any ch 2 space, ch 2 (counts as dc) 2 dc in same space, *3tr, ch2, 3tr in next ch space (corner), 3dc in ch space*, 3 dc in ch space, repeat * twice join with a slip stitch to beg ch, fasten off (4 corners (3tr, ch2, 3tr) - x8 3dc clusters)

Weave in all the ends. More rounds can be easily be added using regular granny clustersNOTE: When joining a new color, sl st in a different chain space than the finishing stitch of the round below. This will keep your square from slanting.
NOTE: Weaving in the end at the each row helps maintain the crispness and cleanliness of the square.
BLOCKING: Soak the finished square for about 10 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently, do not twist. Lay damp square on a blocking board and stretch to 5 inch width x 5 inch length (or whatever your gauge is). Use blocking pins to hold square in place. Let the square dry completely before removing from board.
