
FREE ~ Pearl Drop Granny Square Crochet Pattern

The Pearl Drop Granny Square is a beginner friendly crochet pattern which features a variety of stitches to make a pretty and interesting granny square. It may look difficult, but it's not. The stitches used in this pattern are the Chain Stitch, Double Crochet, Puff and Cluster Stitches, V-Stitch and Long Double Crochet. Each round goes very quickly and you can easily kick out quite a few quickly.
The Pearl Drop Granny Square is very versatile and can be used in place of any granny square in any pattern. Extra rows can be added easily to make it fit your project. Mix up the colors to make the square pop!!

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:
CH - Chain
DC - Double Crochet
SL ST - Slip Stitch
LONG DC - Long Double Crochet
PUFF - Puff Stitch (Yarn over, insert hook into allocated space, draw up a loop, repeat 3 times, yarn over, pull through all 9 loops on hook)
CL ST- Cluster Stitch (Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook three times, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook)
V-STITCH – V-Stitch (dc, ch 1, dc)
PATTERN
Make Magic Ring or ch 4 and join with a sl st to beginning ch to form a ring
Round 1 (Puff Stitch Round): Yarn 1 – ch1 (does not count as a stitch) Work *Puff, ch1 into ring – Repeat * 5 times, join with a slip stitch in top of first puff stitch, fasten off (6 puff - 6 ch)
Round 2 (Cluster Stitch Round): Yarn 2 - Sl St into any ch 1 space, ch1 (does not count as a stitch) Work * Cluster Stitch, Ch 1, Cluster Stitch Ch 1* in each ch1 space around, join with a slip stitch in top of first cluster stitch, fasten off (12 bobbles - 12 ch)
Round 3 (V-Stitch Round): Yarn 3 - Sl St into any ch 1 space, ch 3 (counts as a dc and ch), dc, ch 1. Work *dc ch dc ch into each chain one space, sl st into beginning chain, fasten off (12 v-stitch - 12 ch)
Round 4 (Granny Round); Yarn 4 - Sl St into any ch 1 space, ch 2 (counts as dc) 2 dc in same space, *3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch space (corner), 3dc in ch space*, 3 dc in ch space, repeat * twice join with a slip stitch to beg ch, fasten off (4 corners (3dc, ch2, 3dc) - x8 3dc clusters)
Round 5 (Long Granny Round): Yarn 5 - Sl St into corner space, ch 2 (counts as dc) work corner *(3dc ch2 3dc), **dc, long dc into ch in round 3 v-stitch, dc**, repeat ** twice, repeat * 3 times, join with a sl st to beg ch, fasten off (4 corners (3dc, ch2, 3dc) - 12 long dc clusters), fasten off
Weave in all the ends. More rounds can be easily be added using regular granny clusters
NOTE: When joining a new color, sl st in a different chain space than the finishing stitch of the round below. This will keep your square from slanting.
NOTE: Weaving in the end at the each row helps maintain the crispness and cleanliness of the square.
BLOCKING: Soak the finished square for about 10 minutes in cool water and squeeze excess water out gently, do not twist. Lay damp square on a blocking board and stretch to 5 inch width x 5 inch length (or whatever your gauge is). Use blocking pins to hold square in place. Let the square dry completely before removing from board.
